Be Aware - IT Has its Limits

Too Much Knowledge is Too Much Power

Hackers are the master minds in computer systems and are very dangerous. Infamous hacker Julian Assange, who founded WikiLeaks, was part of a cracker hacker team called the International Subversives (De Borchgrave 2010). Using WikiLeaks, Assange "leaked" secret information and exposed secrets to the public. According to NBC News, the website was used to obtain and dissminate classified documents and data (Whittaker 2018). Willam Cummins says that some of the classified information leaked by Assange included video footage of Iraqi people being killed by an American helicopter (Cummins 2019). As Ewan MackAskill from the Guardian says, he also exposed around 9,000 secret files, which were only the first tranche of documents that he leaked from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) (MackAskill 2017). As a consequence, he was arbitrarily detained in the Equadorian embassy in London (Sky News 2019). After recently leaking yet more documents from the Vatican, Assange was finally arrested for his hacking in London (Dixon 2019). Assange's story is a great example of how misusing cybercurity by hacking and leaking information can result in severe consequences and how it must not be used for unethical purposes.

Hackers are only useful if they work in the cybersecurity industry, to inspect computers for bugs and remove them if any exist in the computer. When it is used by the wrong people, there are dire consequences for those who steal information. Some hack computers for the use of finding another user's personal data, some can hack into another person's account by using their password, while others, such as Assange hack and release private information so it spread to the public. Hacking in cybercurity is a useful practise, for detecting any bugs or viruses that may affect the computer. This is useful as it will help to remove any bugs, if the computer is in fact affected. Otherwise, illegal hacking is a known crime, associated with cybersecurity, that will only reslt in imprisonment. Such was the case, with "cracker hacker" Julian Assange".
