Bullied Online? Report It!

Bullying is serious online

Cyberbullying remains a major concern for users online, using different types of social media. Many users add random people just for the sake of increasing their friend count. Accepting randoms gives them access to certain information about your friends as well as stated by Craig Charles (Charles 2019). Users are tempted by these social media platforms to add friends because they want to belong to that social group environment. Charles explains that whether someone is to be added or not, depends on whether the user knows the person in real life. Sometimes others online can target users, by offending them with inappopriate messages and abusing them with bad comments. In fact, the well-known social media platform Facebook, already has 87% of the reported cyberbullying cases, as stated by BRIM Anti-Bullying Software (BRIM Anti-Bullying Software 2017). In addition, as explained by the Sydney Morning Herald, it is estimated that cyberbullying affects at least 1 in 10 Australians (Adonis 2017). This indicates that a very large number of people have been influenced by cyberbullying.

If anyone is being cyberbullied, the best course of action they can do is to report it. As stated by the team at Connect Safely, the best solution is to report the problem to the service (Connect Safely 2018). In social media, users can take care of themselves, if they manage who they add and talk to well. That is, if they are aware that they can trust who they add, then they can be cybersafe. It can be very hard to cope with the social network if there are bllies. However, by staying silent and reporting the incident to the social media, cyberspace can be a better place. In a world with developing technology, the misuse of cybersecurity can greatly offend users, when it comes to socializing online. Users who are bullied online can recover from their problems, if they report it to the social media so that they can take some course of action to avoid it in the future. It is crucial to make sure that a user can trust a friend, before adding, to minimise the likelihood of such problems
